ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT - Megan Jefferies - Grad Class of 2013

Megan Jeffries – From Immac Grad to New Immac Teacher

Year of Graduation from Immac - 2013

New role at Immac - Senior Math and Science teacher

Best memories of Immac - Some of my favorite memories came from playing sports.  Our soccer team in particular was so close and supportive of everyone. It was a unique experience as it included students from all grades.  As a young student I was able to learn so much from the seniors, and as a senior I was able to support and mentor the new players on the team.

Where did life take you after Immac?  I went to university at UBCO and graduated in June 2017 with a Bachelor of Science Honours in Biochemistry. I then started the education program at UBCO in September 2017 and graduated with my Bachelor of Education in December 2018. I have been supply teaching at Immac this year.

Which teachers had the biggest impact on your life? Mrs. Vos had a huge impact on my life.  She was the one who fostered my interest in science, which inspired me to get my first degree.  When I chose teaching as my career path it was largely due to the fact that I had such an amazing experience with Mrs. Vos in high school, and I wanted to do the same for students as she did for me.  I am so excited to learn from her again and have her as a mentor at Immaculata.

What is it about Immac that brought you back?  I love the community within Immaculata.  There is always someone there to support you with whatever you need.

What are you most looking forward to about getting started at Immac? I am really looking forward to getting to know the staff and students and having the opportunity to be part of the Immaculata community once again.

Do you have any words of wisdom for our graduating class? Stay in touch with your friends from Immaculata.  The relationships you build here are so unique and you will learn that these are the people that will always be there to support you.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I love to play soccer, hike and bike.  I love the summer when I can get outside and be active.  Travelling is a huge passion of mine.  I have learned so much through experiencing unique cultures and lifestyles around the globe.  One of my favorite experiences was having the opportunity to teach in Africa last year.  The students and teachers taught me so much and showed me that you can still do incredible things in a school with very few resources.

Do you have any special plans for summer 2020? I will be getting married to Jake Davies, Immaculata class of 2012!!!
