The Sr. Boys Basketball team has had a highly successful season and will look to continue their good run at the upcoming Provincial Championships. The boys competed in the Okanagan Valley Tournament last week and played very well in front of a raucous home crowd. Â In their first game the boys defeated Barriere sending them to the semi-finals. Â In the semi-finals the boys defeated Similkameen in a spirited and hard fought affair which saw multiple lead changes. Â In the end the Mustangs finished with the lead and went on to the finals. Â In the final game the Mustangs took on rival KCS Knights. Â The Knights have had the Mustangs number all year and this game proved to be no different. Â Led by Dario Gini the Mustangs battled hard against the Knights, taking a lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Knights depth was too much on this day as they pulled away at the end. Â The boys now head to Provincials at Trinity Western University ranked #2 in BC, and a great shot at making a deep run in the tournament. Â For boys Provincials information visit https://sites.google.com/site/singleaprovboysbball/home.

Meanwhile the Mustangs Sr. Girls travelled to Lumby to participate in their Valley Championships. Â The girls won their first game convincingly before falling to Princeton in the semi-finals. Â This would put the girls in a must-win situation as only the top 3 team have a chance to advance to the Provincials. Â The girls came through in strong fashion finishing 3rd in the Valley, but had to travel to Williams Lake to take on Fraser Lake in a one game showdown for a berth at the Provincial Championships. Â The girls took an early lead and never gave it up, earning a berth in the Provincials. Â The girls are a dark-horse in the tournament and have the potential to make some waves. Â For girls tournament information visit http://seniorgirlsbasketballprovincials.com/.

Good Luck to both teams at their respective Provincial Championships!

This week our Sr. Girls and Boys basketball teams are participating in the Catholic Schools Championships at Holy Cross High School in Surrey.

On Wednesday both teams took on Notre Dame from Vancouver and both came away with 8 point wins with the boys winning 61-53 while the girls final score was 52-44.

Both teams now have a day off before playing in the tournament semi-finals on Friday.  The boys will likely play the top ranked STM Knights from Burnaby, while the girls will likely play Archbishop Carney from Port Coquitlam.

You can follow all the action from the tournament website at http://www.hconlineed.com/catholics2012/?page=home, or the tournament twitter feed at http://twitter.com/BC_Catholics.  Some games may also be streamed online from the tournament website.

The Immaculata girls are the only team from outside the Lower Mainland to win a Catholics Basketball banner winning it in back-to-back years (2003 and 2004).  Meanwhile the boys highest finish ever was 3rd place in 2011.

GO MUSTANGS!
